Perth Return

Thoroughly researched with our guests’ interests in mind, TravelGlo’s Hot Tips! are a collection of unique experiences you’ve never considered. Often not mentioned in travel guides, take advantage of our insider knowledge and discover fantastic things to do, places to go, food to try and much more.

HOT TIP!

Few tourists know about Heirisson Island at the east end of the Swan River. Pack a picnic and enjoy a lazy afternoon with the resident kangaroos.

Join up with your fellow travellers and driver/guide then set off on a tour of Perth. See Town Hall, Yangan Square and Kings Park to name a few – then you’re free to enjoy the local hot spots at your own pace. You might grab a coffee and check out the street murals in Wolf Lane. Or, do some people watching at Cathedral Square – a vibrant neighbourhood where you’ll find bars, a brewery and restaurants among heritage buildings and civic centres.

Stay: Travelodge Perth

It’s road trip time! First stop is York, a historic town filled with convict history and heritage buildings. After some time to stretch your legs it’s onward to Bruce Rock before reaching Hyden. You’ll no doubt be ready for some tucker and some R&R – both of which you can get right here at your motel.

Stay: Two nights, Hyden Motel

  • Breakfast

HOT TIP!

While you’re exploring Wave Rock, be sure to make a detour out to Hippo’s Yawn – a rock that looks just like, you guessed it, a hippo yawning.

You’re nowhere near the beach but you’ll still get to see Australia’s biggest wave. The giant granite cliff known as Wave Rock is an astonishing 15 metres high, 110 metres long and over 2,700 million years old. Walk under the rock face and along the surrounding trails through the bush. This region is also home to many of Western Australia’s best wildflowers and you’ll get to enjoy a wonderful display of local flora during a tour of a wildflower farm.

Home of the great 1892 gold rush, Coolgardie still retains its heritage features today. If you’re up for it, follow the placards on the self-guided Boom to Bust Heritage Trail walk between significant town sites. Once you’re in Kalgoorlie, you have the rest of the day to yourself. Grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants along Hannan Street.

Stay: Three nights, Kalgoorlie, Hospitality Inn

Daily :
  • Breakfast

HOT TIP!

In your spare time, head to Burt Street – a five-minute drive from Kalgoorlie’s town centre. Lined with restored 20th-century buildings it’s as if you’ve stepped onto a movie set.

Discover Australia’s largest outback city on today’s guided tour. Then, prepare for your jaw to hit the floor when you first lay eyes on Kalgoorlie’s Super Pit. It’s big. Unimaginably big. You’ll have plenty of time to gaze into one of the world’s largest open-cut mines during a tour. With the rest of the day free, why not take some time out at Karlkurla Park? Or hire a bike from the visitor centre and pedal your way around town.

Daily :
  • Breakfast

A change of scenery is on the cards to day with a drive out to Lake Ballard. Here you’ll find a collection of 51 metal sculptures by British sculptor Sir Antony Gormley scattered across the dazzling white salt lake. Nibble on a picnic lunch before heading to an outback pub for a drink with the locals. Back in Kalgoorlie tonight, there’s a farewell dinner planned.

Sadly, it’s time to say your goodbyes. Travel to Perth where your journey finishes.
